About Us

 Water Resources Center /

Mission & Vision

Mission

The mission of the Auburn University Water Resources Center is to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration among Auburn University faculty and staff on water-related research, outreach, and instruction; conduct innovative research to find practical solutions for current and future water issues and empower private citizens to become active stewards of water resources.

Vision

The vision of the Auburn University Water Resources Center is a world where water resources are used, managed, and protected in a more scientifically-informed and sustainable manner, resulting in resilient ecosystems and thriving communities.

Objectives

To provide research-based information to environmental professionals and policy makers for improved management and protection of Alabama’s water resources.

To promote holistic management of water resources that supports multiple uses (agricultural, industrial, ecological, recreational, etc.).

To facilitate interdisciplinary, multi-institutional collaboration among Auburn University faculty and staff on water-related research, education, and community engagement.

To empower private citizens to be better stewards of local, regional, national and international water resources through water quality monitoring training.

Methods

To achieve its mission, vision, and objectives, the Auburn University Water Resources Center consists of interdisciplinary teams of research, teaching, and Extension outreach faculty and staff who address all types of water-related issues in Alabama, the Southeast, and around the globe.  The research activities are funded through the Alabama Water Resources Research Institute, the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station, and a wide variety of extramural sources.  The outreach activities are done through the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and through programs such as Alabama Water Watch and Global Water Watch.
