January 13 – The final report is available. Seed per pound and seed quality data is available for the soybean trials at the Brewton Agricultural Research Unit.
Soybeans at the Black Belt Research and Extension Center displayed uneven maturity within a plot as well as uneven maturity on individual plants, which caused a delay in harvest. This coupled with the onset of frequent fall rain events further delayed harvest. As a result, shattering increased and seed quality declined, ultimately making the Black Belt sobyean trials not harvestable.
January 5 – Seed per pound and seed quality data is available for the soybean trials at the Tennessee Valley Research and Extension Center.
November 23 – Yield data is available for the Maturity Group VII-VIII soybean trial at the EV Smith Research and Extension Center. Soybeans at the Black Belt Research and Extension center remain in the field due to plants/pods that are maturing uneavenly.
November 17 – Yield data is available for the soybean trials at the Sand Mountain Research and Extension Center (Early Maturity Group IV, Regular Planted Maturity Group IV, Maturity Group V/VI).
November 10 – Yield data is available for the Maturity Group VI test at the E.V. Smith Research and Extension Center Field Crops Unit.
November 5 – Yield data is available for all maturity groups at the Brewton Agricultural Research Unit. Yield data is also available for the Maturity Group V test at the E.V. Smith Research and Extension Center Field Crops Unit.
October 29 – Yield data is available for the early-planted Maturity Group IV test at the Tennessee Valley Research and Extension Center. Additionally, some agronomic information has been added to the early-planted maturity group IV test at the EV Smith Plant Breeding Unit.
October 27 – Yield data is available for the Maturity Group IV test at the Brewton Agricultural Research Unit.
October 17 – Yield data is available for the Maturity Group IV test at the E.V. Smith Research and Extension Center Field Crops Unit.
October 16 – Yield data is available for the Early Planted Maturity Group IV test at the E.V. Smith Research and Extension Center, Plant Breeding Unit, Tallassee, AL. This trial was exposed to two herbicides, glyphosate and dicamba. Most of the entries in the trial were Extend soybeans and were not sensitive to the herbicides. However, there were twelve varieties that did not have resistance to one or both herbicides. Each exibitited visual symptoms of herbicide injury. One variety was damaged severely enough that it’s data was omitted. The eleven remaining varieties yielded much better than anticipated. Some were even statistically equal to the top yielding variety. It is unknown whether the injury observed significantly reduced yield in the eleven remaining varieties. Therefore, they are included and identified with the type of herbicide in which they are sensitive.
September 22 – The soybean trials at the Gulf Coast Research and Extension Center in Fairhope, AL received damaging wind and rain from Hurricane Sally. Due to the extent of the damage, it is anticipated that data will not be available for any of the cotton trials at this location for the 2020 season.
The soybean trials at the Brewton Agricultural Research Unit in Brewton, AL received an exceptional amount of rain from Hurricane Sally but did not have as much wind as the Gulf Coast Research and Extension Center. It is anticipated that the Brewton soybean trials will be harvested.
