{"id":11092,"date":"2024-02-23T17:20:07","date_gmt":"2024-02-23T17:20:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aaes.auburn.edu\/wrc\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=11092"},"modified":"2024-02-23T19:46:35","modified_gmt":"2024-02-23T19:46:35","slug":"national-forest-water-monitoring-training-oakmulgee","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/aaes.auburn.edu\/wrc\/event\/national-forest-water-monitoring-training-oakmulgee\/","title":{"rendered":"National Forest Water Monitoring Training &#8211; Oakmulgee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-6459\" src=\"https:\/\/aaes.auburn.edu\/alabamawaterwatch\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/12\/USFS-CitSci-Oakmulgee-Twitter-1-1024x572.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"572\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000\" href=\"https:\/\/auburn.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_5vXqj2iiYj6Hav4\">Registration is required!<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alabama Water Watch, in partnership with the USDA Forest Service and Wild Alabama, is excited to announce Phase III of the water monitoring project in the National Forests in Alabama!<\/p>\n<p>This project\u2019s goal is to promote citizens to\u00a0<strong><em>discover the national forests in Alabama\u2026by monitoring their waters!\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Volunteer citizens will gather water chemistry and bacteriological monitoring data on select stream locations within the National Forests in Alabama. <a href=\"https:\/\/aaes.auburn.edu\/alabamawaterwatch\/get-certified-as-a-water-monitor\/\">Read more about Water Chemistry and Bacteriological Monitoring here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Two hybrid (virtual and in-person components) water quality monitoring trainings will be held in March through May 2024 for the Oakmulgee and Bankhead\/ Bankhead National Forests.<\/p>\n<p>Each workshop will cover information related to the water environment, forests and watershed health, pollution, water quality standards, and data management. Training participants will be trained and certified in AWW Water Chemistry and Bacteriological Monitoring. <strong>Although these trainings are focused on the USFS Project and monitoring sites in the NFAL, they are open to anyone interested in getting certified as AWW Water Monitors.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Participants will head outdoors to conduct monitoring practices and visit pre-selected monitoring sites on the National Forests.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966\"><strong>Professional Development Hours are available through PowerSchool for educators who complete training. For more information, please email awwvolunteers@auburn.edu.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>You must complete each of the steps outlined below to receive your monitoring certification.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Follow these steps to get started:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0Register for training through this form by April 16th, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0Select the monitoring type(s) for which you would like certification through this form.<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>On April 16th<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong>Participate in the Kick-Off Zoom from 12-1 pm.<\/strong>\u00a0<em>This is not required for certification but will help you navigate the training process and meet AWW Staff.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use the link and instructions you receive via email following the Kick-Off Zoom to\u00a0enroll in the Online Courses\u00a0required for the certification type(s) you requested.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u><strong>By Midnight on April 30th<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong>Complete the self-paced, online coursework<\/strong>\u00a0for the monitoring type(s) of interest.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Introduction to AL Water Watch \u2013\u00a0This course is required for all monitoring types and must be completed to unlock all other AWW Online Courses.\u00a0(1 hour)<\/li>\n<li>Bacteriological Monitoring Course (90 minutes)<\/li>\n<li>Water Chemistry Monitoring Course (2 hours)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u><strong>On May 3rd<\/strong><\/u><br \/>\n<strong>Attend the in-person Field Day at Oakmulgee National Forest<\/strong>\u00a0where you will demonstrate your ability to conduct monitoring tests under the observation of an AWW Trainer.
