Tell us about your background and what brought you to work with the AUWRC?<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.26.0″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]

I began working with water in 2018 when I was in high school.<\/span> I worked in a fishery<\/span> <\/span>doing <\/span>aquaculture and aquaponics<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>I<\/span>n <\/span>2019<\/span>, I <\/span>started water quality monitoring<\/span> <\/span>for the City of Florala doing bacteriological testing for E. coli in Lake Jackson.<\/span> <\/span>When <\/span>I came to<\/span> college at Auburn University <\/span>I chose to major in biological and agricultural technology mana<\/span>gement<\/span>. I am now a senior in the <\/span>program,<\/span> <\/span>and<\/span> I study technological approaches to solving environmental issues. In the <\/span>summer of 2023,<\/span> I <\/span>interned<\/span> <\/span>as an aquatic technician <\/span>with The Greenery <\/span>in<\/span> Charleston, SC performing<\/span> pond maintenance<\/span>. <\/span>When searching for <\/span>internship opportunities for this summer, I knew I wanted to continue in water<\/span> and <\/span>hopefully work under<\/span> Extension Specialist and <\/span>Water Resource Center Director<\/span> Dr. Eve Brantley.<\/span> <\/span>When the ACES Intern position <\/span>opened<\/span>,<\/span> I <\/span>immediately<\/span> applied and specified my <\/span>preference for working with water. <\/span>Being selected for this position is such an honor as well as working with the entire WRC staff!<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

What projects are you working on this summer?<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.26.0″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]

This summer I am working on various projects within the <\/span>Water Resource Center.<\/span> <\/span>The Alabama Water Resource Conference <\/span>is planned by WRC staff. As an intern, I get to <\/span>assist<\/span> with <\/span>logistics<\/span> like sorting abstracts<\/span> and<\/span> <\/span>administrative tasks like selecting and designing swag, attend conference committee meetings<\/span>, and more<\/span>! <\/span>With Alabama Water Watch, I am<\/span> helping plan and<\/span> prepar<\/span>e<\/span> for educational <\/span>trainings<\/span> that<\/span> <\/span>occu<\/span>r<\/span> throughout the summer<\/span> i<\/span>ncluding the AWW Annual meeting<\/span>, Fish Camp with Auburn Youth Programs, and BWET Professional Development.<\/span> <\/span>M<\/span>y main project is <\/span>using ArcGIS<\/span> <\/span>StoryMap<\/span>s<\/span>, a <\/span>program<\/span> that allows you to combine <\/span>interactive maps and <\/span>storytelling<\/span>, to create an interactive narrative of stormwater practices on Auburn University\u2019s Campus. <\/span>This project is a collaboration between the AU Water Resources Center and Auburn <\/span>University<\/span> Facilities Management<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span>The purpose of this<\/span> project<\/span> is<\/span> <\/span>to provide information and background on<\/span> how<\/span> L<\/span>ow Impact <\/span>Development <\/span>projects and Green Infras<\/span><\/span>tructure <\/span>work to mitigate nonpoint source pollution and <\/span>increase<\/span> <\/span>effectiveness<\/span> <\/span>of <\/span>stormwater management <\/span>practices.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What advice would you give to others hoping to work in water resources?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.26.0″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]

My biggest piece of advice to students in related fields is to take every opportunity you get.<\/span> Whether it is attending a meeting, job fair, or tour, you never know <\/span>who you might meet and how they could expand your network<\/span>. <\/span>In 2022, I attended the Fall College of Agriculture Career Fair and received an internship <\/span>offer <\/span>on site<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/aaes.auburn.edu\/wrc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/07\/Moores-Mill-Public-Meeting.jpeg” title_text=”Moore’s Mill Public Meeting” _builder_version=”4.26.0″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.26.0″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]

What are some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned since coming to Auburn?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.26.0″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]

The biggest lesson I have learned since coming to Auburn is that everyone has a <\/span>place, and it is okay to be different.<\/span> <\/span>There are parts of coursework<\/span>, <\/span>my job<\/span>, and life <\/span>that I excel at due to my <\/span>experiences, skills, <\/span>learning style<\/span>, and <\/span>knowledge.
