{"id":5983,"date":"2015-01-12T14:30:47","date_gmt":"2015-01-12T14:30:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.auburn.edu\/aww\/?p=1134"},"modified":"2023-05-11T14:06:37","modified_gmt":"2023-05-11T14:06:37","slug":"city-of-daphne-purchases-aww-water-testing-kits-for-local-volunteers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aaes.auburn.edu\/wrc\/city-of-daphne-purchases-aww-water-testing-kits-for-local-volunteers\/","title":{"rendered":"City of Daphne purchases AWW water testing kits for local volunteers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>by Ashley Campbell, CPESC, Environmental Program\u2019s Manager, City of Daphne<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The City Daphne is an ADEM permitted Phase II Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4).\u00a0 As part of the City\u2019s implementation of its Stormwater Management Program Plan, the City purchased water test kits to introduce citizens to volunteer water monitoring.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1136\" style=\"width: 594px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/aaes.auburn.edu\/wrc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/01\/Daphne1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1136\" class=\"wp-image-1136 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/aaes.auburn.edu\/wrc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/01\/Daphne1-1024x653.jpg\" alt=\"Youth Leadership Program environmental field trip\" width=\"584\" height=\"372\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1136\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Youth Leadership Program environmental field trip with local high schools &#8211;\u00a0the City provided a safe location and AWW test kits for the outing.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>By sponsoring the Alabama Water Watch kits, the City is increasing citizen awareness and participation in watershed stewardship.\u00a0\u00a0 In August of 2014, the City sponsored a two-day Alabama Water Watch training event, where 25 local volunteers received their Alabama Water Watch certifications.\u00a0\u00a0 Several of these volunteers will be sampling in the D\u2019Olive Watershed, Daphne\u2019s most impaired watershed.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1138\" style=\"width: 594px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/aaes.auburn.edu\/wrc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/01\/Daphne2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1138\" class=\"wp-image-1138 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/aaes.auburn.edu\/wrc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/01\/Daphne2-1005x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Anna Bryant, an AWW volunteer monitor, introduces water quality  monitoring to high school students\" width=\"584\" height=\"595\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1138\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Anna Bryant, an AWW volunteer monitor, introduces water quality monitoring to high school students using AWW test kits provided by the City of Daphne.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The D\u2019Olive Watershed has five impaired streams.\u00a0 These streams do not meet their Fish &amp;
