Available certifications include\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/awwblog.auburn.edu\/2024\/05\/22\/what-is-water-chemistry-monitoring\/\">AWW Water Chemistry Monitoring<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/awwblog.auburn.edu\/2024\/05\/17\/what-can-macroinvertebrates-tell-us-about-water-quality\/\">Stream Biomonitoring.<\/a>\u00a0You must complete each of the steps outlined below to receive your monitoring certification.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>This workshop is funded in part by a Clean Water Act 319(h) grant from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management in partnership with the City of Cullman. The overall goal of the project is to improve water quality in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mywaterway.epa.gov\/community\/Broglin%20River\/overview\">Broglen River Watershed<\/a>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The goal of this training is to promote citizen scientists to monitor water quality in the Broglen River Watershed in Cullman, AL. Volunteer citizen monitors will gather water chemistry and stream biomonitoring data on select stream locations in the watershed to help support restoration efforts in the area.<\/p>\n<p>The training will cover information related to the water environment, watershed health, pollution, water quality standards, and data management. Training participants will be trained and certified in AWW Water Chemistry and Stream Biomonitoring.<strong>\u00a0Although this training is focused on the Broglen River Watershed, it is open to anyone interested in getting certified as AWW Volunteer Monitors.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Follow these steps to get started:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0Register for training through this form by April 14, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0Select the monitoring type(s) for which you would like certification through this form.<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>On April 14<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong>Participate in the Kick-Off Zoom from 12-1 pm.<\/strong>\u00a0<em>This is not required for certification but will help you navigate the training process and meet AWW Staff.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use the link and instructions you receive via email following the Kick-Off Zoom to\u00a0enroll in the Online Courses\u00a0required for the certification type(s) you requested.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u><strong>By Close of Business (5pm Central) on April 28<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong>Complete the self-paced, online coursework<\/strong>\u00a0for the monitoring type(s) of interest.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Introduction to AL Water Watch \u2013\u00a0This course is required for all monitoring types and must be completed to unlock all other AWW Online Courses.\u00a0(1 hour)<\/li>\n<li>Stream Biomonitoring Course (90 minutes)<\/li>\n<li>Water Chemistry Monitoring Course (2 hours)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u><strong>On April 30<\/strong><\/u><br \/>\n<strong>Attend the in-person Field Day in Cullman, AL<\/strong>\u00a0where you will demonstrate your ability to conduct monitoring tests under the observation of an AWW Trainer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Location:\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nHeritage Park<br \/>\nCullman, AL<\/p>\n<p><strong>Field Day Schedule: TBD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You will receive additional details for each of these steps closer to the workshop date.<\/p>\n<p>Only your name, email, phone number, and mailing address are required to register for this event.
