DESCRIPTION:Alabama Water Watch Water Chemistry and Stream Biomonitoring Training – Cullman \nREGISTER TODAY!! \nTraining Description: Become a certified Volunteer Monitor through this hybrid (online and in-person) training opportunity! Available certifications include AWW Water Chemistry Monitoring and Stream Biomonitoring. You must complete each of the steps outlined below to receive your monitoring certification. \nThis workshop is funded in part by a Clean Water Act 319(h) grant from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management in partnership with the City of Cullman. The overall goal of the project is to improve water quality in the Broglen River Watershed. \nThe goal of this training is to promote citizen scientists to monitor water quality in the Broglen River Watershed in Cullman\, AL. Volunteer citizen monitors will gather water chemistry and stream biomonitoring data on select stream locations in the watershed to help support restoration efforts in the area. \nThe training will cover information related to the water environment\, watershed health\, pollution\, water quality standards\, and data management. Training participants will be trained and certified in AWW Water Chemistry and Stream Biomonitoring. Although this training is focused on the Broglen River Watershed\, it is open to anyone interested in getting certified as AWW Volunteer Monitors.  \nFollow these steps to get started: \n1.  Register for training through this form by April 14\, 2026. \n2.  Select the monitoring type(s) for which you would like certification through this form. \nOn April 14 \nParticipate in the Kick-Off Zoom from 12-1 pm. This is not required for certification but will help you navigate the training process and meet AWW Staff. \n\nUse the link and instructions you receive via email following the Kick-Off Zoom to enroll in the Online Courses required for the certification type(s) you requested.\n\nBy Close of Business (5pm Central) on April 28 \nComplete the self-paced\, online coursework for the monitoring type(s) of interest. \n\nIntroduction to AL Water Watch – This course is required for all monitoring types and must be completed to unlock all other AWW Online Courses. (1 hour)\nStream Biomonitoring Course (90 minutes)\nWater Chemistry Monitoring Course (2 hours)\n\nOn April 30\nAttend the in-person Field Day in Cullman\, AL where you will demonstrate your ability to conduct monitoring tests under the observation of an AWW Trainer. \nLocation: \nHeritage Park\nCullman\, AL \nField Day Schedule: 9am-4pm \n9am – Stream Biomonitoring Session \n12pm – Lunch (bring a sack lunch!) \n1pm – Water Chemistry Monitoring Session \n4pm – Training End \nYou will receive additional details for each of these steps closer to the workshop date. \nOnly your name\, email\, phone number\, and mailing address are required to register for this event.
