SUMMARY:CANCELLED - AWW Stream Biomonitoring Family Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Alabama Water Watch Family Stream Biomonitoring Workshop \nCANCELLED\nJoin us for the first-ever Alabama Water Watch Family Workshop!  \nWe invite families with children of all ages to explore the creek at Auburn University’s Kreher Preserve & Nature Center for aquatic critters and engage in hands-on activities about watershed stewardship. \nThis workshop will be most impactful for elementary and middle-school aged children (5-12)\, although all children are invited to participate with their families. Parents/guardians will be responsible for their child(ren) for the entire workshop. \nSaturday\, May 20\, 2023 from 9am – 12pm  \nLocation\nKreher Preserve & Nature Center\n2222 N College St\nAuburn\, AL 36830 \nRegistration Fees \nRegistration is $5 for each participant in the family. Note: Your registration is not complete until your payment is received. You will be provided with payment options at the end of this registration form. Registration closes on May 15th. No refunds will be given after that deadline. \nWhat to Expect \nThis workshop will have virtual and in-person components and will cover information related to the water environment\, watershed health\, pollution\, water quality standards\, and how to use stream critters to determine water quality. To make the most of your experience during the workshop\, parents/guardians will go through the Introduction to Alabama Water Watch Online Course to be introduced to our program and citizen science. \nKids will get up close and personal with critters of the creek! They will collect aquatic macroinvertebrates using nets and pans\, conduct simple identification\, and help determine a biotic index as an indicator of water quality. Kids will also participate in hands-on activities focused on water pollution and adaptations of macroinvertebrates. \nAWW Monitoring Certification in Stream Biomonitoring is available for parents and guardians who complete additional requirements. Get in touch with us if you are interested! \nAdverse Conditions Statement \nIn the spirit of good stewardship of our participants’ safety\, health\, and physical condition\, Alabama Watch Water would like to address some of the potential hazards and/or special circumstances that outdoor workshop events may present to individuals. You will be walking in terrain that varies from flat to very steep and/or brushy ground. Weather and climate changes can vary from cold mornings to hot days and could include precipitation of rain\, sleet\, or snow. You may encounter plants or wildlife that can pose a hazard to your health including\, but not limited to stinging insects (such as bees\, wasps\, hornets\, scorpions)\, venomous snakes and/or spiders\, allergenic plants (such as poison ivy\, poison oak\, poison sumac)\, or other seasonal\, plant-derived allergies. If you have any known life-threatening allergies and/or are required to carry an Epi-Pen\, you are responsible for notifying an AWW Staff member prior to the outdoor event and carrying required materials for your safety (ex.
