Cutts recognized as UGA outstanding alumni

Auburn agronomist Trey Cutts, Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences assistant professor and extension cotton specialist, is one of seven University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences graduates that the college’s alumni association has recognized as 2017’s most outstanding alumni.

Cutts joined the Auburn faculty in 2016 and, through his research and outreach programs, provides agronomic solutions to regional extension agents across Alabama.

He graduated from the University of Georgia with his bachelor’s degree in turfgrass management in 2007 and his master’s in crop and soil sciences in 2010. He was awarded his Ph.D. in plant breeding from Texas A&M University in 2013 and spent the next three years in East Africa as a line development breeder with Monsanto South Africa. In that role, he focused on developing improved, drought-tolerant maize lines and hybrids.

The Georgia ag alum organization presented the 2017 outstanding alumni awards in late September during a banquet on the Athens, Georgia, campus.
